1706 - Should I install an operating system on the OPS? | Promethean Support

1706 – What do I need to install an operating system on my OPS-M or Promethean OPS?

Applicable to:

  • ActivPanel

  • Linux

  • Mac

  • OPS M

    OPS M

  • Windows

If your OPS does not have a pre-installed operating system, you are free to install any operating system on it. Promethean does not provide any instructions on the installation of operating systems. Should you need help, please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

There are two models of OPS manufactured by Promethean which come without a pre-installed operating system:

  • OPS model OPS2-5P8R256S (OPS-M)
  • OPS model OPS-5P4R500H (Promethean OPS)

NB: The operating system needs to contain the required hardware drivers for the USB chipset prior to its installation on the OPS.

Windows 10 already contains these drivers which makes it ideal for use with the ActivPanel. Windows 10 will also ensure optimum performance of the OPS.

Older Windows operating systems, such as Windows 7, do not contain these drivers out of the box, so some issues during the installation of the operating system may be seen. Therefore the required hardware drivers need to be added to the ISO of the operating system or a master image before deploying it to the OPS.

The relevant Windows drivers for these models of OPS can be downloaded from article 1557. For any other operating systems, please contact Promethean Technical Support.

If you still need technical support, please contact us.
