1238 – Unable to install ActiView driver .msi due to User Account Control on Vista

If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled in Windows Vista, the installation of the ActiView driver will not complete and the following error message appears:

Disabling UAC in Windows Vista will allow the installation to complete.

  1. Click the Start Menu and select Control Panel
  2. Open User Accounts and Family Safety or User Accounts depending on the menu’s layout
  3. Click User Accounts
  4. Click Turn User Account Controls on or off. If you are prompted for the administrator’s password, then type the password.
  5. Uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer to disable UAC.

After the ActiView driver has been installed and the computer has been restarted, you should go through steps one to five to enable UAC. Simply check the box in step five to turn it on again.
