1210 – Understanding localhost
The term localhost is one that may come up when running ActivInspire and the ActivEngage2 Server on the same machine. It is not applicable if you are running ActivInspire and ActivEngage2 Server on different machines.
Localhost refers to the local computer on which a program is running. For example, if you are running ActivEngage2 Server on the teacher’s computer, ActivInspire can connect to the ActivEngage2 Server by using localhost:xxxx, ComputerName:xxxx or IPAddress:xxxx.
NB. :xxxx refers to the port number that ActivEngage2 is configured to send traffic through.
However, localhost is not a name that other computers and devices can use to connect to the ActivEngage2 Server on the teacher’s machine. It will not work. Localhost only works on the local machine.
The localhost address is 127.0.0.1, and it’s known as the loopback address.
